Finding luxury student accommodation can be challenging. What can be labelled as ‘luxury’ may not be. Let us guide you on various features to look out for when searching for luxury student accommodation.
The Building
Firstly, the building itself. It’s important to look at what condition the façade is in. Granted it may be an old building, however old buildings can be full of hidden problems. That’s not to say you shouldn’t consider older builds, especially if they’ve been well maintained. Keep an eye out for large cracks, mould and damp. It is also worth looking out for any lose plug sockets or old appliances as this could lead to a potential fire hazard.
For peace of mind, your safest bet is to narrow your search down to relatively new buildings. It’s also important to note that new builds have stricter building and structural regulations meaning they tend to be safer.
What it has to offer
You should consider what your potential luxury student accommodation has to offer. Ask yourself if there are any extra added features in your building. Does it have a car park? Parking in the city can be costly. If your accommodation offers parking, not only will it save you money, but it will also give you peace of mind with regards to safety.
Does it provide a great communal space and outdoor area? These are important factors when deciding on accommodation. Granted you may be spending a lot of your time in your own personal space, but external features are just as important as this will expand the perimeters of your ‘sanctuary’. Especially when you are living in the city, an outdoor space can provide you with some peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle.
Your Room
The MPV of any luxury student accommodation — your room. If you’re wanting luxury, then you need to keep an eye out for high quality finishings and furnishings, appliances, storage, and the space itself. Make sure that your room has been thoroughly cleaned before you move in. If you’re paying a premium price, then you should get a premium room with good service. Don’t be afraid to ask these questions when conducting your search.
Safety
Now, this is the real deal-breaker. One of the most important aspects to consider is the safety precautions of the building. Most luxury student accommodations should provide a reception desk upon entry. When the reception is not open, there should be a member of staff on call for emergencies. Take note of how you enter the building itself. Do you use a fob access system or code? If not, then we recommend potentially looking elsewhere. Your safety is first and foremost the pinnacle of deciding where to base yourself. You must also check that there are working fire doors and exits, fire alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and burglar systems. CCTV surveillance should cover the building too — but they must work! Again, it’s worth asking these questions before you apply anywhere.
Your living conditions can make or break your university experience so don’t be afraid to keep searching until you find a student accommodation that’s perfect for you.
